Propel Sinus Surgery
at Allergy & ENT Associates of Middle TN
Chronic sinusitis is a common condition affecting an estimated 37 million Americans each year. It involves inflammation of the sinuses that blocks nasal passages and contributes to chronic infections. Symptoms may include nasal congestion, sinus pain and pressure, loss of smell and taste, nasal discharge, headache, fatigue, and depression.
Medications may provide temporary relief, but long-term results are often limited. Many patients turn to sinus surgery to enlarge sinus cavities and improve drainage. While surgery can be effective, some patients experience recurrent sinus infections within a year and may require follow-up procedures.
For some patients, Propel may offer an additional treatment option designed to reduce inflammation and support long-term sinus drainage.

- Sinus pain and pressure
- Nasal discharge

- Chronic or recurring sinus infections
How Does Propel Work?
The Propel steroid-releasing implant is an alternative treatment for patients with chronic sinus infections. It is the first (and only) product designed to target inflamed sinus tissue directly, opening the sinus passages for improved drainage and reduced symptoms.
Propel is inserted during an endoscopic sinus procedure. The implant resembles a spring and delivers a measured dose of mometasone furoate, an anti-inflammatory steroid. It gradually dissolves and is completely absorbed by the body within four to six weeks after implantation.
Approved by the FDA in 2013, Propel is considered safe and effective and may reduce the risk of post-surgical scarring and inflammation. Patients who receive Propel may also have a smaller chance of needing follow-up sinus surgery.
