Dr. Matthew Speyer Bio

Dr. Matthew Speyer is a board-certified otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) serving patients in Hendersonville and Nashville, Tennessee, with extensive experience in ear, nose, and throat care, sinus conditions, and head and neck surgery. He is known for his leadership in the field and commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.


Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Speyer earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He then completed a 6-year residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University, where he received a top research award and published several scientific and clinical papers.


Following his residency, Dr. Speyer remained at Vanderbilt as an Assistant Professor, where he trained and mentored otolaryngology residents for two years. In 2000, he established his private ENT practice in Nashville, where he has served the Middle Tennessee community for over two decades.


Dr. Speyer has held numerous leadership roles throughout his career, including:

  • President, Nashville Chapter of the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Society
  • President, Nashville Academy of Otolaryngology
  • President of the Medical Staff, Skyline Medical Center (Nashville, TN)

  • Chief of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at St. Thomas Hospital
  • Instructor for surgical residents and medical students
  • Rhinology and Skull Base Consultant for the St. Thomas West Neurosurgery Unity Program
  • Executive Board Member of St. Thomas Surgicare, serving as Physician Champion


Dr. Speyer provides comprehensive ENT care, with expertise in:

  • Advanced ENT procedures


He is dedicated to providing exceptional, evidence-based care, combining decades of experience with a personalized approach to each patient.


Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Speyer enjoys spending time with his family, including both immediate and extended relatives. In his free time, he enjoys backpacking and hiking across the United States, cycling, and spending time with his dogs.
