Dr. D. Scott Fortune Bio

Dr. D. Scott Fortune is a board-certified otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) serving patients in Hermitage and Lebanon, Tennessee, with expertise in sinus care, allergy treatment, and minimally invasive ENT procedures. He provides comprehensive care for conditions affecting the ear, nose, and throat, with a specialized focus on rhinology and advanced sinus treatments.


Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Dr. Fortune was raised in East Tennessee, living in Clinton and later Knoxville. He attended Emory University in Atlanta before earning his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he received the Surgical Clerkship Award during his fourth year. He completed his surgical internship and residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University.


Dr. Fortune is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, demonstrating his advanced expertise in allergy-related ENT conditions and sinus disease management. He is also an active member of the:


  • American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery
  • American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy
  • American Rhinologic Society

Locations

While Dr. Fortune practices all areas of general ENT, he has developed a strong focus on rhinology and minimally invasive sinus procedures. Alongside Dr. Bryant, he serves as a Center of Excellence Trainer for Stryker ENT, where he leads monthly peer-to-peer training sessions for physicians across the country, teaching the latest techniques in office-based sinus surgery.


His additional clinical interests include:

  • Allergy and asthma management
  • Skin cancer treatment
  • Industrial hearing loss


Dr. Fortune serves as the Medical Director of Providence Surgery Center in Mt. Juliet, TN, where he is also a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He is also involved in quality care initiatives through his role on the Performance Improvement Committee at Summit Surgery Center in Hermitage, TN.


Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Fortune enjoys spending time with his family. He has two children, Lucas and Anna, and his wife, Mary Ellen, has two children, Rebecca and Aaron. His personal interests include physical fitness (core conditioning and spin biking), reading historical and literary fiction, and traveling, with favorite destinations including London, Scotland, and Ireland.
